The U.K.’s new “texting while driving” PSA is incredibly poignant. Not only does it highlight the consequences for someone focused on their cell phone instead of the road, but it does so in a horrifyingly graphic way. I remember being 16 and getting my license … my drivers ed class would show videos of real crashes and dead bodies; the result of a careless driver, or the grisly outcome of a DUI.
I admit to having hit the send button on a text message while driving. Or perusing the iPhone map because I use it as my GPS. Even shuffling through songs on my iPod. But I do believe this PSA, as graphic as it is, is a necessary reminder of how quickly that text message “you just had to reply to” while on the road endangers the lives of everyone around you.
